Head of Research & Instructional Services

Working under the supervision of the Library Director, the Head of Research & Instructional Services provides leadership and vision for coordination of premier-level reference and instructional services. The Head of Research & Instructional Services manages the Reference Department comprised of a large team of librarians and staff who provide an array of research and instructional services for the Stanford Law School community. The position oversees and develops new departmental service programs, library marketing & outreach, publications, and other patron services to support and promote the law library, including reference & research services and interlibrary loan services to Stanford Law students, faculty, staff, and the wider University community. The position also teaches legal research courses at the law school, including, but not limited to, courses in Advanced Legal Research, and will spearhead proposals to continue expanding our instructional outreach, particularly into SLS clinics and policy labs. As a senior member of the law library's management team, the Head of Research & Instructional Services participates in management and goal-setting for the law library, providing information, advice, and consultation to library administration related to reference department operations. Stanford law librarians are encouraged to seek and supported to pursue opportunities for professional growth and education evolvement, both here in the education-rich Bay Area and nationally. To be successful in this position, you will bring: Both a JD and Master's degree from an ALA-accredited school of library and/or information studies;  Advanced knowledge of legal research sources and sophisticated skills with using research materials in all formats;  Demonstrated ability teaching within a formal classroom setting, litigating in court, or presenting in another learning environment; Five years of experience in academic law libraries and capacity to work at a high level of responsibility or a combination of education and relevant experience. Successful supervisory experience is strongly preferred; legal practice and/or teaching experience are also strongly preferred.  Extensive knowledge of relevant aspects of library operations including understanding of contemporary library practices, trends, and emerging technologies; A very strong service ethic, and the ability to blend harmoniously with colleagues and the law school and university communities; An aptitude for and interest in project planning and management, as well as excellent organizational, time-management, and analytical skills; Demonstrated exceptional written and oral communication skills; Demonstrated ability to work effectively, both collaboratively and independently, within a highly collegial environment; A commitment to continuous service improvement and innovation;  An agile and curious mind, along with a healthy sense of humor and a spirit of idealism about our chosen profession. 80820

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
