Major Gift Officer, Specialist

Stanford Medicine is comprised of Stanford University School of Medicine, a premier research-intensive medical school, and Stanford Health Care, hospital that is a nationally recognized for quality patient care and leading-edge technology. We seek experienced candidates for a new Development Officer to join the Major Gifts team. Stanford's top-ranking Medical Center Development continues to build upon the generous support of its donor community, and is in the early stages of planning the next campaign in which Stanford Medicine will have newly-defined philanthropic priorities in alignment with the University-wide strategic vision. Within this framework, this new position will support the growing philanthropic relationships of the Department of Medicine, the largest department in the School of Medicine. This department spans several varied clinical specialties, including Immunology, Gastroenterology, Infectious Diseases, Nephrology, Primary Care, and others. The department is also home to research divisions in bioinformatics, health policy, and preventative medicine.  JOB PURPOSE: Plan and implement a specific fundraising program for the university, school or unit.  Responsible for prospect identification and solicitation, proposal development, mobilization of outside support, and coordination of internal support activities. Partner with faculty, staff, donors, and volunteers to establish and maintain relationships with all university constituencies. Stanford is committed to a donor-centric approach to development.  Every member of the Office of Development staff plays a role in providing the university's donors with the service and attention that ensures an exceptionally positive and fulfilling philanthropic experience.   Your responsibilities include: Developing solicitation goals, objectives, and strategies for development projects and/or specific donor populations. Managing an active portfolio of major gift assigned prospects to cultivate, solicit, and steward their support. Tracking solicitation efforts and progress. Assisting in ensuring appropriate tracking/reporting of grateful patient fundraising and other cultivation/solicitation efforts. Developing relationships with current and prospective donors leading to gifts in the $250,000 - $10,000,000 range. Enhancing relationships between current and prospective major donors and the school's faculty, dean, staff and volunteers.                        Identifying and executing cultivation strategies including donor-centered events and the creation of marketing collateral, working closely with the events and creative teams. Attaining a working knowledge and understanding of the medical research and research priorities. Developing relationships of mutual respect and trust with faculty. Preparing faculty for donor meetings, responding to donor requests for written proposals, and engaging with volunteers to assist with cultivation/solicitation where appropriate.   Working closely with other development colleagues to align program goals with the overall giving goals of the university's development organization. - Other duties may also be assigned To be successful in this position, you will bring: Bachelor's degree and a minimum of eight years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience. Demonstrated effectiveness in prospect identification, relationship building, and solicitation. Established experience mentoring and working with volunteers, faculty, and staff. Proven ability to meet fundraising goals with a strong track record in managing and balancing donor/faculty/lay leader relationships. Superior written and oral communication skills, with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to articulate a compelling case for philanthropic support programs. Capacity to translate complex concepts into compelling development proposals.  Ability to work effectively with faculty, top executives, and community leaders.  An aptitude for creativity, innovation, and flexibility, including the ability to adapt in a rapidly changing environment. Demonstrated high integrity and trustworthiness. Ability to take information from many sources and distill it to core messages that are communicated to different audiences. Strong ability to collaborate with others.  Demonstrated high-level customer service skills and diplomacy with faculty, balancing the goals of the institution with faculty aspirations.   A political acumen and the ability to navigate very complex institutions and competing priorities to make the best match for donor interests. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
