Life Science Research Professional


Stanford University is seeking a Life Science Research Professional 2 to perform more complex functions and activities involved in defined research projects, and independently conduct a portion of the research project(s).


The Canary Center at Stanford is a world-class research facility dedicated to cancer early detection programs. Our mission is to discover and implement minimally invasive diagnostic and imaging strategies for the detection and prognostication of cancers at early, curable stages. The Canary Center is the first in the world to integrate research on both in vivo and in vitro diagnostics to deliver these tests, by housing state-of-the-art facilities and collaborative research programs in molecular imaging, proteomics, chemistry, cell and molecular biology, and bioinformatics.


DUTIES INCLUDE:


  • Overseeing a wide fleet of scientific instrumentation (e.g. microscopes, NMR, mass spectrometry) at the Canary Center at Stanford.
  • Provide instrument training to scientific staff and trainees.
  • Oversee and perform maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting on various instrument platforms.
  • Work with faculty, staff, and trainees, to help design experiments, provide recommendations, and test and optimize new and existing protocols.
  • Help ensure that safety standards are followed.
  • Troubleshoot instrument problems with service vendors and coordinate instrument repairs and maintenance with vendors as needed.
  • Serve as a technical resource for Canary Center instrumentation.
  • Provide laboratory support to Canary Center shared spaces and resources.

Qualifications:


  • Experience with scientific instrumentation examples include but not limited to:
    microscopy, NMR, chromatography, mass spectrometry, flow cytometry, and others. General computer skills and ability to quickly learn and master computer programs, databases, and scientific applications. Strong analytical skills and excellent judgment. Ability to maintain detailed records of experiments and outcomes. Ability to work under deadlines with general guidance is essential. Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to complete detailed work accurately. Excellent communication skills and ability to train new instrument users. Strong comfort level with analytical instrumentation and learning to use new instruments. Technical troubleshooting skills and ability to communicate with service personnel. Interpersonal Skills:
    Demonstrates the ability to work well with Stanford colleagues and clients and with external organizations. Promote Culture of Safety:
    Demonstrates commitment to personal responsibility and value for safety; communicates safety concerns; uses and promotes safe behaviors based on training and lessons learned.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):


  • Bachelor's degree in related scientific field and two years of relevant work experience; or Masters degree in a related scientific field.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :


  • Frequently stand, walk, twist, bend, stoop, squat, grasp lightly, use fine manipulation, grasp forcefully, perform desk-based computer tasks, use telephone, write by hand, lift, carry, push and pull objects weighing over 40 pounds.
  • Must have correctible vision to perform duties of the job.
  • Ability to bend, squat, kneel, stand, reach above shoulder level, and move on hard surfaces.
  • Employee must perform tasks that require the use of personal protective equipment, such as safety glasses and shoes, protective clothing and gloves.

WORKING CONDITIONS:


  • May require working in close proximity to blood borne pathogens.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
